My HR Management professor has instructed as part of a project to "brainstorm" with others outside of our class. So in an effort to brainstorm electronically I'm asking for your help here.
My project consists of the creation of a Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale (BARS). My scale is for teams. Here's where you can help. Think of a time when you were on a scholarly or professional team and give me some examples of team members' behaviors that helped the team and also behaviors that hurt the team.
Post your examples in the comments section. I don't care if this is your first time visiting our blog or you've been here 10 times (cause I doubt anyone has seen our blog any more times than that). Please leave a little snippet of something about a good or bad team member's behavior.
Thanks for your time (I know you don't have much :)

I am sure Ramon can help you with this. I will be sure he gets on here.
My whole life (work life) revolves around "collaboration" (the new catch phrase for "teamwork"). Right now I work at a company where I am an agent/contractor yet am expected to gather, organize, present and approve/reject information and/or product. Needless to say I have several coworkers who are more than happy to schedule time with me to share how they use the information I either provide or get from them. The biggest challenge I am faced with right now is the Buyer. Previously the "buyer" was responsible for ALL aspects of the product in working with outside suppliers (domestic importers)... now under the new structure the buyer literally must interact with a team of people and not just a salesman from an outside company. Said buyer never saw that team of 50 designers behind the smiling face of the salesman who "Sold" her... and who really likes to admit they "Got Sold" LOL!
So I am faced with a buyer who on a daily basis tells me how great she is and how much she knows while polishing her crown and makes sure that I am made to feel of no worth. That little tactic doesn't work with me because I have been doing this far to long but it effects my other coworkers. I know I am rambling but I think I have come to a conclusion. The company has not clearly defined AND communicated new job roles and is not enforcing what they have so pathetically attempted to share. So......ad the all mighty gods of the retail giant (ok were not really a giant) communicated expectations we would all be much more successful.... be making more money in a more efficient manner for the company which in the end benefits us personally.
I do love my job.... just got stuck with the passive aggressive buyer yet AGAIN. You would think that twice is enough but no... gotta do it 3 times! I do have to say that dealing with people like this... those who are not team players has built my character and polished some skills I don't find myself using often.... I'm a cut to the chase kind of girl who just wants to get the information and get her job done. I don't have time or babies who need an ego stroked.
